How to Make a Talking-Head Video Without a Camera

· FinalTake

A talking-head video needs a presenter, a voice and words worth hearing. How to make one without filming yourself, and when to use your own face instead.

What a talking head is for

A talking head works because someone appears to be saying it to you. That is the whole effect. It is a good format for explaining an offer, answering an objection or introducing a product, and a poor one for anything that needs to be shown.

Pick a presenter and a voice

FinalTake has a library of stock presenters, each with a voice already matched. Pick one who fits your buyer, then check the voice against your script. On paid plans you can also create a custom presenter from your own photo, so the talking head can be you without a shoot.

Write for the ear

Write the way you would say it to one person. Short sentences, one idea each. Read it aloud before you use it: anywhere you stumble, the presenter will sound stiff too.

Direct the performance

The presenter is lip-synced to your script and looks at the lens. Review the storyboard for framing and caption placement, so captions do not cover the face, then approve. Nothing is generated before you do.

When to use your own face

If your audience buys from you personally, or the video is a founder update, record it yourself. A generated presenter is the better tool when the message matters more than who says it: ads, explainers and repeatable content.

FAQs

Are the presenters real people?
They are AI presenters from a stock library, each pinned to a voice. On paid plans you can create a custom presenter from your own photo.
Can I use my own voice?
You can import your own audio for the presenter to lip-sync. Voice cloning is available on higher plans; see the pricing page for which.
Does it fix a video I have already recorded?
No. FinalTake generates a new directed performance. It does not edit or repair footage you recorded.
